With an ensemble cast of 20 plus, the story follows the Waterbury children who are forced to move with their mother from a luxurious Edwardian villa in the London suburbs to 'Three Chimney's', a house near the fictional 'Great Northern and Southern Railway' in Yorkshire. Their father who works at the Foreign Office, has been imprisioned as a result of being falsely accused of selling state secrets to the Russians. Each day, Roberta, Peter and Phyllis run down the field to the railway track and wave at the passing London train, sending their love to Father. Little do they know that the kindly old gentleman passenger that waves back holds the key to their father's disappearance. After many adventures, they attempt to discover the reason for his disappearance.
