In This Month's Spotlight

Co. Wexford Youth Theatre

In the Spotlight because....

CWYT are bringing That Night Follows Day to the Wexford Arts Centre stage from 8-11 February. The play written by Tim Etchells of Forced Entertainment, a UK based company, catalogues the many ways a child's life is determined by that of their carers. With great clarity and humour, it examines the systems of parenthood, upbringing, discipline, care and welfare that define the world of children and adolescents. Astonishingly simple and beautifully poetic, the play is performed by a cast of 16, aged from 8 to 14, and all from Wexford, in an innovative play that explores how children's lives are affected by the adult world that surrounds them. It looks at ways that adults project onto children, and the ways that adults and children alike are both constrained and made by language as they try to describe their experience and imagine their own futures.

Powerful choral chants create the collective voice of 'the children' with more personal monologues allowing us glimpses into the individuals who have come together to think about how they are being formed as people. The production is directed by Tony McCleane Fay.

This play is a co-production between Bare Cheek Theatre Company and County Wexford Youth Theatre in association with Wexford County Council, Wexford Arts Centre and the Arts Council.

Dates: 8-11 February at 8pm
