2014: A Year of New Initiatives and Developments

It’s hard to believe it is already time to reflect on another year for NAYD and the youth theatre community. There is much to celebrate as we look back on a year that saw the development of several new initiatives and partnerships. Most importantly, we wish to acknowledge the work of affiliated youth theatres who, week in week out, all over this country allow young people to reap the huge benefits of participation in youth drama. They also entertain, enrich and strengthen their local communities with their productions and participation in local events and festivals.

Important: Garda Vetting Legislation

The Garda Central Vetting Unit have informed us that garda vetting will become a legal requirement in late November or early December when the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 becomes fully enacted. This will mean that groups and organisations that work with young people will be committing an offence if they allow staff or volunteers to work with them before the garda vetting process is complete. NOW is the time to ensure that you are prepared for all the changes the Act will require. If you aren’t, you may not be able to run your programme as normal.
