Where to Begin?

This year's Leading On.... residential training course will focus on devising and will take place in NUI Maynooth from 16-19 June.  It will explore devising processes for making theatre using a range of stimuli as starting points.

NFYT: Update

We can now announce the youth theatres that will take part in this year's National Festival of Youth Theatres in Kilkenny from 6-10 July.  Thirteen groups representing all areas of the country will send eight participants and two leaders.

Artstrain - now recruiting

The waiting list is now open for NAYD's drama facilitation training course, the next round to begin in September 2011.The course is funded through the FAS Local Training Initiative and is FETAC accredited. Those interested must register with FAS.

NYT Auditions

A massive thank you to all the 140 youth theatre members who auditioned for this year's National Youth Theatre production. After some difficult deliberations, 40 young people from 20 youth theatres have been invited to call-back auditions taking place on 7 and 8 May.


Capture YT

You can now view the video created for Graffiti Theatre  Company under NAYD's Capture YT project.


The 10 minute video focuses on the story of Graffiti's three youth theatres with contributions from both members and leaders.


Step by Step Publications

NAYD has published two educational drama publications aimed at primary schools. Step By Step Educational Drama and Step by Step Together have a cross-curricular approach and each contains a number of  practical drama schemes divided according to age. Both are available to order from  NAYD.

Lightbulb Youth Theatre - Two Plays

Performances of The Man Behind the Mask and The Heights. Venue is St. Mary's Secondary School, Theatre, Mallow, Co. Cork.

Physically Phishy Youth Theatre- In Quest of a Play

New devised piece. The venue is Graffiti Theatre, Blackpool, Cork. 

Free Range Youth Theatre- All Things

New play by Neil Flynn. The venue is Siamsa Tire, Tralee.

Limerick Youth Theatre -  The Creative Show

20-22 June

The result of a collaborative project between LYT and service users from the Daughters of Charity. The venue is the Belltable Arts Centre.

May 26 is the closing date for the Artist in Youth Work Scheme. Offered by NCYI's Youth Arts programme, the award has two strands: the Artist in Youth Work Residency Scheme and the Youth Arts Development Award. Grants are up to 5,000 Euro. Create administer the Artist in the Community Scheme on behalf of the Arts Council. The aim is to enable artists and communities of place/or interest to work together on projects. The next closing date is 27 June.

Leargas are holding a Youth In Action showcase on 14 May to mark Youth Day 2011. Events will include screenings of short films created by young people around Ireland. They are inviting youth groups to participate in the showcase.
