Going, Still Seeing
It's official! April and May are the busiest months ever for youth
theatres shows. The range of work is a testament not only to the
range and scope of youth theatre, but also prove that members are
firmly at the centre of the creative process.

Centre
Stage +10 Launch
Our major
report, Centre Stage +10, will be launched on 20th
May by Martin Cullen, TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism.
Rhona Dunnett has carried out extensive research into all aspects
of youth theatre with substantial input from leaders, members and
stakeholders in the sector.
In addition to the launch,
there will be a number of sessions focusing on findings within the
report and discussion on the general trends and themes. Read

Funding

The closing date for the Arts Council's Bursary Award is 30th
April. It is open to individual artists in a number of
artforms and arts practices including Theatre and Arts Participation.
The main purpose of
this Award is to support professional artists in developing their
art. It is open to artists
at all stages of their careers. It is important that applicants
can identify themselves as practising artists and be recognised
by their peers as such. Application forms and more information can
be found on the
Arts Council website.

The latest edition of IN2, the National Youth Council
of Ireland's annual publication on youth arts practice, is now available
to download.
This edition is themed
around Intercultural youth arts practice in Ireland. It contains
articles focusing on the benefits of Interculturalism and presents
a number of case studies in the form of innovative youth arts projects.

The third edition of Managing Volunteers: A Good Practice
Guide has been produced by the Citizens Information Board.
It provides updated information on good practice for organisations
that involve volunteers in their activities.
The materials in this
guide can be adapted by individual organisations to help them design
volunteer management policies and procedures and develop volunteer
policies suited to their needs. You can download the publication
from the Citizens
Information Board Website.

There

in auditioning for the National Youth Theatre. There is still space

Anna
Galligan, NAYD's Youth Theatre Officer, is currently developing
a series of new resources for youth theatres.
They
will provide guidance and advice on all aspects of running your
youth theatre including recruitment of members, staffing and welfare.
Sample forms and templates will be downloadable from the Advice
Centre section of our website
in the near future.

The Charities Act was signed into law in February.
The Act will be commenced in stages.
There will be implications for existing charities. We are happy
to offer advice to any of our member youth theatres who are registered

New
Stage is back in 2009. Playwrights Veronica Coburn, Ciaran Gray
and Tom Swift have been commissioned to produce new work for youth
theatres. There will be a particular emphasis on writing for the
12-14 age group
Rehearsed
readings of the three plays will take place on 3rd October as part
of the second Young Critics weekend.
