NYT Auditions

April is NYT audition month! This year's National Youth  Theatre production will be directed by acclaimed director Mikel Murfi. It will be on stage at the Peacock Theatre, Dublin from 22-27 August. Workshop auditions are taking place in Dublin (17/18 April), Cork (19 April) and Sligo (20 April).  Auditions  are open to members of youth theatres affiliated to NAYD,  aged 16 - 21.

NFYT: Express Your Interest!

Expression of Interest Forms have been sent to member youth theatres for the National Festival of Youth Theatres taking place in Kilkenny from 6-10 July. We are expecting a high demand on places so get those forms in as soon as possible!

Artstrain - now recruiting

The waiting list is now open for NAYD's drama facilitation training course, the next round to begin in September 2011.The course is funded through the FAS Local Training Initiative and is FETAC accredited. Those interested must register with FAS.

Garda Vetting

April 29 is the next closing date for the return of garda vetting application forms from youth theatres in membership of NAYD's Garda Vetting Consortium. Contact Katie to order forms or to find out more about the consortium.


Leading On.....

Leading On.... is NAYD's training programme for youth theatre leaders. This year's residential training will take place in NUI Maynooth from 16-19 June and is entitled Where to Begin?


It will focus on devising through the use of a number of techniques. Members will be sent application froms in the next few weeks.


YT Support Scheme

Seven youth theatres have been awarded support under the Youth Theatre Support Scheme. Three under Theatre Skills Training, two under Drama Facilitation Support with three receiving awards under GO SEE YT.

14 April
Presented as part of LIFT - Ballymun's Youth Arts Festival. Includes two of NAYD's New Stage plays. Venue is Axis, Ballymun.

Leitrim Youth Theatre Co. Carrick-on-Shannon -  Red Red Shoes

15-16 April
Charles Way's play, based on the well-known tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Venue is The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon

Boolabus Youth Theatre- Trapped by Fear

19-21 April
One of NAYD's current New Stage plays, written by Aisling O'Leary. The venue is the Mill Theatre, Dundrum, Dublin

Dublin Youth Theatre - First Year One Act Festival

26-30 April

Triple bill of short plays, featuring first year members. Venue is Dublin Youth Theatre, 23 Upper Gardiner Street, Dublin 1.

Droichead Youth Theatre - Mix Tape

30 Apr - 2 May

New devised piece. Presented as part of the Drogheda Arts Festival.  Venue is the Little Duke Theatre, Drogheda.

The closing date for the next round of the Arts Council's Young Ensembles Scheme will be 29 April. Guidelines and information on making an application are now available on the Arts Council's website.

In other funding news, Sligo County Council are accepting aplications for Arts Act Grants and the Individual Artist Bursary Scheme. Dublin City Council are offering Arts Bursary Awards.



Youth Arts Showcase

Youth Arts Works is an initiative of NYCI's Youth Arts Programme and is looking for young people involved in youth arts to submit a 10-30 second video of themselves talking about their experience. The videos will be shown as part of a showcase to be attended by  politicians and other decision -makers.


Partnership with IWA

NAYD has developed a partnership with the Irish Wheelchair Association to examine challenges for youth theatres in working with and integrating young people with a physical disability into a youth theatre or workshop situation. If your youth theatre has experience in this area, contact Orlaith as we are interested in hosting a seminar with the IWA over the next few months.
